Duty of Candour Report
Clinic 22 Kilmarnock and Saltcoats

At Clinic 22, we uphold our legal and ethical commitment to openness, transparency, and honesty in every aspect of patient care. Our Duty of Candour procedure reflects this commitment, outlining our responsibility to inform and support patients in the rare event that an unintended or unexpected incident occurs during their care, potentially causing harm or loss of life.

Since April 2018, healthcare providers in Scotland have had a statutory obligation under the Health (Tobacco, Nicotine etc. and Care) (Scotland) Act 2016 to implement the Duty of Candour. This means healthcare professionals at Clinic 22 are required to clearly communicate with patients or their families if an incident leads to harm. We ensure that an honest, thorough explanation is provided, accompanied by sincere apologies, and actively involve those affected in reviewing the incident to learn and improve our standards of care.

Clinic 22’s culture is fundamentally rooted in trust, accountability, and continuous improvement, aiming to provide the highest standard of safety and care. Our entire team shares this responsibility, and we diligently adhere to our Duty of Candour obligations.

Each year, Clinic 22 reports incidents, if any, to Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
